About Selina
My work concentrates on nature, colour and form – and making it all come together with a hint of clever satire, jest, irony, or sometimes boringly just beauty which in itself can hold these qualities. When the blank canvas turns into an idea I get very excited. I never quite know what it will become but I love the journey.
My works are colourful and liminal (I just wanted to use this word), the product of instinct mixed with intellect. I am very honed in to my surroundings – colours, sounds and people, especially people and their reactions to news, trends and social media. Have we stopped listening to our instincts? Thank goodness perfection can be found in nature.
I love the process, the physicality of painting and sometimes I have to stand back and just enjoy the result.
New Zealand born, I spent my childhood growing up in Australia. In my early 20s I challenged my shyness and lack of confidence and flew to South Africa to work for a year in Advertising. In those times, a visa was only issued for a year so I continued to London where I lived for 3 years before living 25 years in Germany, learning the language and discovering my love of art. I still do not know how I did it but it seemed to come naturally and has been a big part of my life. I moved back to Brisbane in 2020. Yes I do seem to like to challenge myself.
I have had solo and group shows in Germany, Netherlands and Australia and my work is represented in private collections around the world.
